Ecuador: New rice seed variety

In Ecuador, the Independent National Institute of Farming Researches (INIAP), trough the National Rice Program of its Experimental Station Bolinche, will give to the rice farmers a new variety called INIAP 16, about middle of June.

The new rice variety is of high quality, long extra grain and good cooking behaviour. It is a precocious and tolerant grain to several of the most important diseases of the cereal as grisea pyricularia, white leaf, spots of the grain and Sarocladium oryza.

The yield is calculated in 9 MT by hectare with irrigation and of 8 MT in dry land zones. Another advantage is that allows three harvests per year.
