According to the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce of Costa Rica (MEIC), from last Monday rice price increased ¢13 by kilogram. Rice 20% broken in two kilograms bag cost ¢809 in relation to the previous price of ¢796.

According to the vice-minister of Economy the increase is due to raise of the cereal prices in the international market and to the import of rice that has required the country to assure the supplying in the domestic market. With this increase the government will be able to import 24,000 MT that needs to guarantee the cereal until the harvesting of the local crop next month of June. 1 USD = 517,600 Costa Rica colons
