By news desk on July 13,2007

After receiving complaints from China which were later found to be unture, Thailand's National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards has certified rice shipments from the country are free from any genetically modified organisms.

Chinese authorities in Guangdong province earlier complained that three lots of Thai rice shipped to the province in May were tainted with genetically modified organisms, but it has been found that foreign substances were mixed with Thai rice by unscrupulous Chinese importers.

Thailand, the world's largest rice exporter, aims to export 8.5 million MT of rice this year, up from 7.5 million MT last year.
