IRRI Predicts Tight Markets Next Year

Rice experts at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have predicted that the global rice markets are likely to remain tight next year despite an expected record harvest after key producing nations clamped down exports.

Export prices of rice almost tripled between last November and May, triggering riots in a few countries before softening to still historically high levels of more than $700 PMT.
