Scientists in Valencia (Spain), study the rice genome to improve yield and quality. The Valencian Institute of Farmer Researchers (IVIA) for years has been investigating to contribute solutions to the rice farming in the wetlands of the Lagoon (Albufera). The experts from IVIA have been able to create a variety called Albufera which could yield up to 7,000 kilos by hectare.

The rice Albufera would be resistant to fungi pericularia, wind and rain. At the moment the production reaches only 4,000 kilos by hectare.
