Russia's rice harvest for the current year has reached an estimated 675,000 MT with the average yield of  almost 5.8 MT per hectare.

The Russian government introduced a EUR70 PMT import duty for rice  in 2005 in order to restrict import and stimulate domestic production, which has resulted in increased planted area and higher yields.

This year the government had imposed a seasonal increase in rice import duty to EUR120 PMT from EUR70 PMT for the periods March 1-May 31 and Oct. 1-Dec. 31.
