Caribbean: Jamaica To Import full Quota From Guyana

Jamaican Minister of Trade, Karl Samud has clarified that he was misquoted in the press after reports in the media that Jamaica would not be able to buy its promised quantity of rice from Guyana.

Guyana's Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Dr Henry Jeffrey Thursday said in a press conference that the Jamaican Minister has assured him that Jamaica is committed to purchasing its full quota of rice from Guyana.

In 2007 Guyana supplied the Jamaican market with over 51.500 MT while between January and August this year exports to that market surpassed 23,000 MT.
