Guyana: Govt. Announces Zero VAT For Farmers

By news desk on September 10,2007

Rice farmers across Guyana are likely to benefit from a temporary measure that zero-rates the Value Added Tax (VAT) on combines and tractor spares for the rice farmers.

The announcement from Guyana's Agriculture Ministry comes after a series of discussions with Guyana Rice Producers Association (GRPA) and rice farmers on possible measures to cushion the effects of the prolonged rainy season coupled with the rising cost of production.

Rice farmers are expecting higher paddy prices this season since demand is expected to increase due to the projected lower output.
