Cuba Plan To Increase Domestic Rice Production

The Cuban government has decided to give priority to domestic rice production with the view to substitute imports of rice by over 50 % in the next five years.

According to the director of the Rice Research Institute Jorge Hernandez, the strategy includes recovery of old rice-growing areas, adding new ones and raising current output.

Cuban results have been less than four MT per hectare yearly, which should be between 5.6 and 7.5 MT.
