Vietnamese Prime Minister has allowed the Ministry of Finance to prepare plans to apply a new tax on rice exports. The government has also indicated that it will allow rice exports to resume in July after banning shipments since March to maintain local supplies.

The government will consider the Ministry of Finance's proposals for imposition of a "tax on rice exports" in June, the government said in a statement.

Rice traders with Vietnam Food Association said the government is expected to impose an export tax of $20 or $30 PMT for rice.
