In a bid to increase revenues, Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has set forth plans to improve the quality of rice exports rather than shipping large volumes.

Vietnam is now the second largest rice exporter in the world after Thailand and with rice quality on the up over recent years, Vietnamese farmers now enjoy similar prices for their crops to farmers from the Southeast Asian Kingdom.

Vietnam in the first half of 2007 exported 2.3 million MT of rice and earned over US$731 million, a drop of 9 % in volume and 5.6 % in turnover in comparison to the previous year.
