Vietnam's Mekong Delta to face shortage of rice seeds

The Mekong Delta, the country’s key rice growing area, may face a serious shortage of rice seeds in the upcoming summer-autumn season this year, heard a conference in An Giang Province last week.

The delta had 3.6 million hectares under rice farming a year, which needed about 500,000 MT of seeds.

The Mekong Delta needs 200,000 MT of certified seeds a year but local suppliers are able to make 150,000 MT available,
