Thailand To Trade Paddy on Futures Exchange

By news desk on November 03,2008

The Thailand government is working on a proposal to allow paddy to be traded through the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET).

According to Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, the Commerce Ministry's permanent secretary, the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET) would soon complete a study covering eligibility and trading volumes on how farmers can place their paddy to be traded in the futures market.

The government is hopeful that the initiative would help farmers cut their pricing risk and, with the government's pledging scheme, will help shore up the price of farmers' paddy.
