Thailand Becomes Top Rice Supplier To Gulf Countries

With a ban on export of rice by India, Thailand has replaced India to become the top supplier of rice to the GCC States.

According to a few leading rice importers in the Gulf region, customers had initially showed some hesitation to change over to the Thai varieties, now most seemed to have adjusted to the situation as some of the Thai varieties have become popular with local customers.

Traders have also acknowledged that the parboiled rice from the South East Asian country has now cornered almost two-thirds of the total market in the last two months, displacing Pakistan’s long grain varieties from locals’ menu.
