Rice experts in Thailand including members of the Thai Rice Exporters Association have suggested to the government that the country should limit this year's rice export volume to 9 million MT to ensure adequate domestic supplies.

According to Chookiat Ophaswongse, president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, over the past few months, rice exports have exceeded 1 million MT a month. He also warned that if the current trend continued Thailand might end up having a shortage at home.
