Sri Lanka To Use Force Against Rice Hoarders

The Sri Lankan government has warned that it will use security forces and the police to crack down on traders suspected of hoarding rice following government-imposed price controls.

Sri Lanka has experienced sharp food price rises with year-on-year inflation hitting 28.1% in March, its highest level in the past decade.
 
The country is also seeking new rice supplies from Myanmar, India and Pakistan after recent rains damaged local crops.
