The Philippine National Food Authority, or NFA, bought 280,000 metric tons of rice from Vietnam Wednesday for June and August arrival. The volume will bring the country's rice imports this year to 1.61 million tons, said a senior official of the agency. The NFA bought 105,000 tons of 25% broken rice at $328.96/ton, on a cost-and-freight basis, from Vietnamese suppliers Dagrimex, An Giang Afiex and Vinh Phat Trading. It bought 150,000 tons at $328.99/ton, C&F, from Kigifac and state-owned Vietnam Southern Food Corp. The NFA also bought 25,000 tons of iron-fortified rice at $348.99/ton from Vinafood, the official said. The Philippines, a major buyer of rice in Asia, may bring in 1.7 million tons this year, the official added.
