Philippine Rice Prices Fall On High Supplies

Philippine domestic rice prices continued to fall on ample supplies, and experts have warned that an unabated slide could deter farmers from planting the crop next year.

Purchases of the crop by the state-owned National Food Authority at the support price haven’t helped in stemming the decline.  Price of rice paddy has dropped to PHP9/kilogram, nearly half of a support price of PHP17/kg.
