Philippine Agency Uncovers Irregularities In Rice Program

According to reports in the Philippine media, The Philippine Commission on Audit has uncovered irregularities in a PHP218.7 million expenditure by the Department of Agriculture for providing subsidies to encourage farmers to use high-yielding hybrid seeds, fertilizers and other farm inputs.

The GMA rice program was initiated by the department to attain self-sufficiency in rice production by encouraging farmers to use of high-yielding hybrid seeds and other farm inputs.
