Philippines National Food Authority NFA has revealed that the country was seriously considering securing its future rice import requirements for the year through government-to-government deals.

The NFA has been securing most of its rice import requirements through auctions. The Philippines has so far contracted to buy 877,000 MT of rice out of an import quota of 2.1 million MT for this year.

Based on offers made at an auction earlier this week, the NFA may buy around 350,000 MT of rice, mostly from Vietnam and Thailand.
