Philippines To Buy Additional 500,000 MT This Year

The Philippines plans to buy an additional 500,000 MT of rice this year to boost supply amid rising domestic prices bringing the country's rice import quota to reach 2.1 million MT.

Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo approved an additional budget allocation of PHP2.85 billion to finance projects that will boost production of crops, mainly rice and corn.
