Rice experts in Pakistan have complained that the intervention of Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supplies Corporation (Passco) for procuring one million MT Basmati and Irri varieties from the current crop has made no impact on stability of prices and the growers were not getting prices fixed by the government.

A former chairman of rice Exporters Association, Najaf Hussain Shah, said that despite Passco's coming in the market, the prices of paddy are on decline while the President of Agri Forum Pakistan, Ibrahim Mughal, did not agree with Passco decision to buy husked rice from rice mills, instead of paddy from growers and said it would only benefit the rice mills.
