Pakistan July-January Rice Exports Drop

Rice exports from Pakistan in the first seven months of the fiscal 2007-08 have recorded a drop of nearly 28 % on account of the short supplies and rising domestic prices.

Pakistan's Federal Bureau of Statistics data revealed that the country exported only 1.3 million MT of rice from July to January as against 1.8 million MT in the same period the previous year.

Rice exports from Pakistan accounts for about 8 % of the exports while domestic consumption is about 2.2 million MT.
