The Malaysian government has asked the country's monopoly rice importer, Padiberas Nasional Bhd., or Bernas, has been asked to ensure that there are adequate supplies of rice during the holy month of Ramadan.

Bernas has also given an assurance that it would be able to overcome the shortage by next month and the supply of ordinary grade, 15% broken Super Tempatan, or ST15 rice will be adequate to meet the demand during the coming fasting month and Eid al-Fitr festival.
