According to Malaysian Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Minister, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, the country's rice stockpile has increased by two-fold, to reach 250,000 MT from the earlier 92,000 MT since May this year.

Speaking to reporters, Mustapa admitted that there were some delays in bringing the imported rice, but it would not affect the country's rice supply and that Bernas had been asked to expedite the process to bring in the supply from Thailand.

Malaysia is also likely to receive 100,000 MT of rice, out of 200,000 MT imported from Thailand, by the end of the month.
