Thai rice exports to Malaysia are likely to rise by 40% on year and reach an all time high of 560,000 MT largely die to Vietnam's ban on export in order to maintain its domestic food security.

Although Thai rice is expensive than Vietnamese rice, Malaysia needs to buy more rice than usual during the rest of this year because domestic supply is tight.

Malaysia usually imports about 800,000 tons of rice a year, around half of which is supplied by Thailand, the world's largest rice exporter. The other half is supplied by Vietnam, India and Pakistan.
