India Aiming To Create 2 Mil MT Rice Reserve

According to India's Agriculture and Food Minister, Sharad Pawar, the Indian government is planning to create a 2 million MT rice reserve on top of the 3 million MT wheat emergency reserve created earlier this year.

In the current rice-marketing season, over 274 lakh MT of rice has been procured as compared to 249.66 lakh MT by this time last year. Steps taken for enhancing food grain production, procurement and creation of food reserve ‘will have immense impact on demand - supply scenario and we can render the flow of benefits to farmers if adequate safeguards are put in place,’ he said.
