According to the latest data released by the ministry of Agriculture, India's summer-sown rice crop was planted on 9.2 million hectares as of July 11, up from 8.7 million hectares a year ago.

India's summer crop plantings mostly take place between June and September and are driven by the monsoon and pre-monsoon rains.

India's monsoon rains are a critical source of water for summer-sown crops with around 60% of the country's farmlands being rain-fed.
