India: Summer Crop Sowing Area Up On Year

According to the latest data released by the Indian agriculture ministry, India's summer-sown rice crop are has recorded an increase to reach 3.0 million hectares up from 2.8 million hectares a year ago.

India's summer crop plantings mostly take place between June and September and are driven by the monsoon and pre-monsoon rains. Around 60% of India's farmlands are rain-fed.
