India has allowed an export of 40,000 MT of non-basmati rice to the African nation of Sierra Leone despite a ban on all such rice exports.

The export will be permitted through the state-run trading company PEC Ltd.

India had earlier imposed a blanket ban on all non-basmati rice exports to shore up local supplies but later allowed exports of rice varieties priced above $650 PMT, FOB.
