According to a recent analysis of worldwide rice production data compiled by the US Department of Agriculture, India's annual rice production is likely to increase by almost 15 % to reach 107 million MT from 91 million MT currently over the next ten years.

The USDA's data also suggests that India would be the only country to record a surge of over 10 million MT in this period. The second biggest increase of 2.9 million MT would be seen in Thailand, followed by a rise of 2.5 million MT in Vietnam.

China would however still retain its current status as the world's biggest rice producer in 2016 with its annual output of 123.2 million MT would be higher than India's 107.3 million MT.
