Weeks after announcing a blanket ban on export of non basmati rice, the Indian government has eased the ban by allowing shipments of some premium varieties of the commodity.

According to the new annoucement, the Agriculture ministry have allowed non-basmati rice grades priced above $425 PMT, FOB for exports.

Exports of all non-basmati rice varieties were banned on Oct. 9 to check rising domestic prices and accelerate the government's procurement of rice from farmers to manage its subsidized sale programs.
