India: Commerce Ministry Favours Lifting Rice Ban

India's commerce ministry has requested the agricultural ministry to ease a recent ban on exports of non-basmati rice and allow shipments of premium varieties.

India's Agricultural ministry had earlier banned exports of non-basmati rice on Oct. 9 in order to ensure adequate domestic availability and to check rising local prices.
