China Targets 190 Million MT By 2010

In order to feed it growing population, China is aiming to increase its total annual rice output to at least 190 million MT by 2010 so that it attains domestic grain security.

According to data from the government-backed China National Grain and Oils Information Center, Rice acreage is likely to be expanded to 30 million hectares by 2010 with a unit yield of 6.4 MT per hectare.

China produced 182.57 million MT of rice on 29.3 million hectares of land last year.
