China Lifts Ban On Japanese Rice Import

China has lifted its four year old ban on Japanese Rice Import with the first shipment comprising 24 MT reaching supermarket shelves in Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai.

In April, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited Japan and reached an agreement that paved the way for resuming Japanese rice shipments to Japan. In 2003, the Chinese government had suspended Japanese rice imports on concerns that such shipments may introduce pests to China.
