The Government of Myanmar has agreed to provide 100,000 MT of rice to Sri Lanka with immediate effect in order to overcome the current increase in the domestic prices of the commodity in the Island nation.

The move is expected to bring down the price of rice in the open market. This will also help deal with the rice shortage in the market. The announcement comes at a time when many rice-exporting countries have banned rice exports due to the current global food crisis.
