Nigeria: Sales For Abakaliki Farmers Nosedive

By news desk on December 28,2007

Rice farmers in the rice-growing belt of Abakaliki region in Nigeria are blaming the government for not supporting them as the region records one of its poorest sales figures compared to the other parts of the African nation.

One of the main reasons for the low sales figures is believed to be the fact that rice crops in Abakaliki area have suffered from high pest infestation this season. The situation has been so bad that rice traders and dealers have been traveling to far northern areas of the country to buy rice to sell to their customers in Abakaliki.

Local rice farmers have once again urged the Nigerian government to support them in order to break even in their business.
