Experts believe that NERICA, is a high yielding, contains high protein and can be cultivated during a shorter period. The introduction of NERICA rice is expected to reverse present trends where most of the rice eaten in the Central African sub region is imported.

Studies show that Cameroon, Chad and Central African Republic have agro-ecological conditions that seriously favor rice production.
