By news desk on October 23,2007

Liberia is likely to feel the pinch as it faces a hike in rice prices after India decided to implement a ban on non Basmati varety of rice in order to cater its domestic market.

Indian ban on non basmati rice would create an increase in the price of rice because certain percentage of the commodity consumed in Liberia was imported from India. The Indian rice ban has already hit the United Arab Emirates.

Liberia's minister of commerce, Frances Johnson-Morris has however cautioned rice dealers against the immediate hiking of the price of the commodity until the ones presently in stock were exhausted.
