The Government of Japan has handed over to the Government of Liberia 8,534.38 MT or 284,451 bags of 30 kilogram rice as food aid for Liberia.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made the Japanese Government decision on food aid to Liberia in response to the direct appeal to the Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda for Food Aid (rice in particular) to Liberia.

The Liberian government has meanwhile decided to sell the rice at a very affordable for the Liberian people, ahead of the country's 162nd independence anniversary that will officially be celebrated next Monday.
